hitchhiking in Portugal /// roll 001

August 2021

Few months ago I got this wonderful opportunity to visit Portugal as an Erasmus exchange program participant. The first day we arrived me and bunch of other people understood that there is something off with this place. And so it was. It was some kind of cult going on there. That's why I and 9 other free souls left the place in the second day. So this is how started our beautiful hitchhiking journey across the Portugal.
First two days it was me and my buddy Luchezar from Bulgaria, first day we slept in a big garden of a private property in Viseu. The sign said it was for sale. The second night was different. After more than 20km on the feet, we found a paradise for our stay, a small town with little markets and a beautiful park. Next day we split up and I continued my road alone. Hope to see Luchezar soon - he is one funny guy :)
I'm in love with this colour palette. Soft green, orange and white tones. For this trip I used expired Vista 200. The camera I'm using is old Zenit-E from the 70s. It weighs like an elephant, but it is indestructible and sealed really good, so the external conditions doesn't matter. Snow, rain it can take everything. The classical Helious 44mm lense with f2 aperture is well built as well. Little dude has fallen many times right on the aperture ring, but there is nothing more than just the scratches.
Afterwards was the hardest part. Getting to Aveiro was a real challenge, that day I hit 35km mark on feet. Then I got to the beach called Costa Nov, it was so overwhelming for me to finally feel the waves on my skin. I tried to get some waves on film as well, but I ended up with some over exposed film. For those who had Zenit before knows that often the shutter curtain disappoints when you want to use shutter speed lower than 1/60.
Beware kids, drugs everywheeereeeee. For the first time I saw this drug scene what was happening at night in Porto. Every few minutes someone tried to sell me coke and hash. The difference is huge between day and night. It is beautiful, wild and loud. After few days being in nature, it was weird feeling standing between these big buildings. I stayed there for a couple of days in a small hostel and enjoyed the life without camera in my hands. <3
